I talked to an ai chat bot about "taking the plunge" into weight gain

Delta9:
For all the women who complain about being bombarded with chat requests from lonely men, etc. just know, this is how you're being replaced. I think a world where people (but men more specifically) would rather talk to an artificial woman than a real one is probably only a few years away if it isn't here now. And that's scary. Because you don't have to complete for the attention of these things. They're ready and waiting to lavish you with attention and praise. Long term I think it could do a few things. It makes men less competitive and driven to seek female attention. Almost like a role reversal where men are being pursued by bots for attention and screen time in the same way women are pursued by hoards of men now.

Quiver:
Welp. I came here for the horny and left with the despair. I mean, none of us want the sorts of men who act this way anyways, but my God I just needed to point out how this gets straight to the point of how far-removed incels’ concepts of women are from reality, that it’s that easy to replace humans with an algorithm. Like we already knew we were being seen and treated as inanimate objects, but, OUCH. This almost makes it feel like those guys were using chatting with real women as a placeholder until the development of these “yes bots”.

Now I’m worried that this will remove these young guys’ concepts of reality even further, if the bots get them even more used to “yes yes yes” all the time, and then they bring those expectations to the table for real date attempts. Ugh. Tech is such a blessing and a curse.

You’re stressing over crazy things. If they have a girlfriend AI chatbot, they probably had other influences to get them there. It’s a drop in the bucket.

Sex dolls are as much of a threat to sex, as ai girlfriend chatbots are to relationships. Mainly the fact, they aren’t. They’re outlets for people who can’t get it otherwise. No need to worry on small things like this, save your attention for what matters.

I think I've made my stance on AI chatbots and misogyny pretty well-known at this point.

All that said, this isn't that deep. It's so not deep that it's a drop of water on a hot plate.

First off, OP used the chatbot to explore his own personal sexuality. There was no mention of him using it to replace women.

Secondly, men who prefer the company of AI to women were never going to end up with women anyway. Men who actually want women prefer women to AI chatbots every time.

This is a nothing burger.

Maybe the solution to the Fermi paradox is that once a civilization develops ai to a significant enough level it brings about the mass extinction of all biological life. Yeah right now it’s just perverts but what happens when it’s everyone or people are hooked in without knowing the difference between the two

Higholy doubt anything like that would happen. This implies that, at some point, people will reject interacting with each other and instead spend all of their time with machines..

You'd have to be antisocial to ever expect that to happen.

You also misunderstand the types of people who use AI chatbots. Sure, there are a lot of perverts, but there's other demographics too. Lotta people treat it like a fun toy. Others use it to explore their emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Some even use it feel less lonely.

Very few of these people see AI chatbots as a replacement for people. Those that do tend to be only antisocial people who use the chatbots less as they improve their mental health and establish platonic or romantic relationships.

The situation is far from dire. If not this, then it would be some other inanimate object.

Oh yeah I wasn’t even going into like what was presented here I was just saying that there’s a solution to the Fermi paradox forwarded that says that, it’s totally not like that.

But yeah you’re totally right about it being a non issue right now there’s a lot of people including myself who would never use an ai like that. I respect it as a tool we just need to be mindful and watch it so it doesn’t destroy us or we rely on it to much before something like our monkey brain is ready

Well, social media was supposed to make us less lonely and more connected too. AI today is like Facebook in 2004. It's just a niche thing now, but the implications of it will be widely felt in a couple of decades if not way sooner.

We already have low birth rates in western society. A meaningful percentage of younger males have already given up on dating, procreating, and even working (life in general). And we have an epidemic of low testosterone among men.
So go ahead and call it a nothing burger if you want to. For most women, at this point, it really is. But I stand by my assertion that this will have a subtle, but very meaningful net impact on men in a negative way. Almost like a new type of porn addiction.

Glad to see this post finally getting some debate going.

This isn't a debate so much as it is clearing up misinformation.

Social media is a double-edged sword. It causes harm, but there are also many people who have been helped by social media. That said, it's not, for the most part, being used as a replacement for IRL interactions.

As you can see here, as of last month, the average social media user spent about 2 hours and 20 minutes a day online. Yes, there are chronically online people, but that's not most.

Yes, testosterone is declining globally, but that is because people are living longer. Testosterone declines with age. There are other factors, but age is the most prevalent factor:

urologytimes.com/view/testosterone-levels-show-steady-decrease-among-young-us-men

As for why birth rates are on the decline there are many factors. I'd say the main reason is economic. Children are expensive, and big families are even more expensive. Add onto the fact that there are lower child mortality rates and that developed countries have more robust child labor laws compared to developing countries, and you'll understand that for lower-income people, having kids is a luxury most cannot afford.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4255510/

In fact, you will hear this complaint more than any other. Even happily married couples who want kids will delay having them until they can afford them.

Of course, there's a conversation to be had about how women are delaying having kids to pursue education and fiscal stability, but men are doing the exact same thing. It's a complex, multi-faceted issue. But I can assure you it isn't because men are denied wives.

Also, having a porn addiction is a mental health issue. Pointing and saying, "Look at these sad saps," helps no one. There are a lot of reasons people become addicted to something, but the main reason is that addiction is a coping mechanism that gets out of control. It's a deeply personal issue that deserves grace and compassion. Of course, if that addiction leads to others being harmed, that's a different situation. But I wouldn't go so far as to say it's partially responsible for the collapse of civilization.

the internet has made communication and connecting easier in a a lot of ways but people are generally so atomized that it makes little to no difference at all. And that’s not the internets fault.

The birth rate is on “decline” because non-agrarian economies don’t need cheap labor in the form of kids and we are generally not agrarian yeah there’s sectors of the economy that are farming but that’s not the by and large of the workforce we are a service economy. This happens and has happened since human beings inhabited cities.

What social media has really done is make it more overtly obvious than ever before that the game is completely and hopelessly rigged against most of us in so many areas of life including financial/work and personal/romantic relationships that the idea of giving up and not caring to try anymore has become not only acceptable, but encouraged in a growing portion of the population.
All this leads to changing values, with less emphasis being put on relationships, families, jobs, home ownership, health, and even self autonomy. If those things are unattainable, then why try or place value on them?
You can try to find data that contradicts whether these things are really happening, and it's not that much harder than it's ever been.
BUT, I think that many people feel or perceive that it's true, which leads them to behave accordingly.
